Building a More Accessible 4Cs
Starting March 8, Cape Cod Community College will be commencing with a project to dramatically improve accessibility on our campus. The project will be completed over three phases, ending in June 2019.
In the end, we will have a beautifully constructed entrance that beautifies our campus, as well as increased accessibility on our grounds.
During construction, there will be disruption in foot and vehicle traffic on campus. Please read below for what entrances and parking lots will be impacted, and how you can better get around campus during this time.
Phase One – Rebuilding the Flag pole entrance
Phase one will create a scenic and accessible ramp that will stretch from the flag pole, past the Tilden Arts Center (1) and Nickerson Administration Building (2) all the way to Grossman Commons (7).
Construction: The flagpole entrance will be closed during this phase, as will walkways stretching from the entrance to Grossman.
Accessibility: All buildings will remain open during construction. Detailed information on reaching each building during this phase is listed below.
- Tilden Arts: Accessible parking is provided in the lot between Grossman and Tilden. The lower level of Tilden is accessible by using the building’s elevator.
- Nickerson Administration Building : During this phase, the shortest accessible route from accessible parking to Nickerson is located behind MM Wilkens Hall. Take the elevator from the lower level of MM Wilkens Hall. Follow signs to Nickerson. There is no elevator in Nickerson. The lower level can only be reached by using stairs. Please call College Police at 774.330.4349 if you have business in Nickerson and need accommodation.
- Wilkens Library: The accessible first floor entrance to the library will remain open during normal campus hours. The Library will be closed over Patriots Day weekend.
- Grossman Commons: The entrance closest to the Tilden Arts Center will closed to everyone during this phase. Use the shared parking plaza to access both buildings.
Parking: Park in lots 3 and 4. Use the staircase to reach the library. Accessible parking is available behind the North Building, Science Building, and Grossman Commons.
Phase Two – Leveling Out Pathways to Nickerson and the Wilkens Library
Phase two will create a shorter, more accessible path between the Nickerson Administration Building (2) and the Wilkens Library (3).
Construction: The exterior walkways and stairs between Nickerson and Wilkens Library will be closed during this phase.
Accessibility: The accessible first floor entrance to the library will remain open during normal campus hours. The Library will be closed over Patriots Day weekend.
More information to come regarding accessibility and preferred parking during phase two.
Phase Three – Repaving Behind Grossman Commons
Phase three will see the repaving of the well-travelled pathway behind Grossman Commons (7), leading to the Lorusso Technology Building (9) and Life Fitness Center (10).
Construction: The existing path will be closed during this phase while pavement will be torn up and replaced.
More information to come regarding accessibility and preferred parking during phase three.
