Career Counseling and Exploration

Career interest inventories and self-assessment exercises assist students in further clarifying and understanding how their values and interests affect their career preferences. Individual counseling appointments with the Special Programs Coordinator or the Career Advisor help students become more aware of the many options available to them and how their unique talents, background and skills might fit into specific career options.

In addition, the Special Programs Coordinator and Career Advisor assist students in discovering the many resources available for learning about a variety of specific job descriptions, including Nontraditional by Gender Career paths, salary information and more general job availability projections in their search and discovery process.

Preparation for the Job Search

While students are encouraged to attend our regularly scheduled seminars on Resume Writing and Interviewing Strategies offered in both the Fall and Spring Semesters, individual resume appointments are also offered to assist in the preparation of a professional, high quality resume. Students are encouraged to create a rough draft of their resume prior to their appointment with the Special Programs Coordinator or Career Advisor. The appointment time will then be used to revise, customize and refine the students' resume.

Also, individual appointments are available to students who would like assistance in learning and sharpening their interviewing skills to develop a more effective, results oriented job search.

Job Placement Assistance

The Special Programs Coordinator and Career Advisor strive to assist all Coaches & Mentors students to prepare for, locate and secure professional job opportunities by providing the following services listed:

  • Resume Bank – student resumes are kept on file and referred to appropriate employers as opportunities occur.

Career Plan

New Coaches & Mentors students are required to meet with the Special Programs Coordinator or the Career Advisor to complete an individualized career plan. The career plan is a four step self-evaluation and discovery process which will take place during a students first year at CCCC.

  • Step 1 – Self-assessment Inventory – review your values, interests and preferences as they relate to specific job families.
  • Step 2 – Discover your Self-assessment results – Obtain resources on occupational information. Begin to formulate short-term goals.
  • Step 3 – Informational Interviewing – Continue to research one or two career areas of interest by speaking with a professional employed in your chosen career area. (support and assistance provided)
  • Step 4 – Wrap-up/Results – Are you on the right path?
